Breaking Free: Understanding Sexual Addiction & the Healing Power of Jesus

by Russell Willingham

In today's society, more books of this kind need to be written. And more need to be read. As for this particular book, it's definitely worth starting—but not really worth finishing.

The first five or six chapters, where Willingham discusses some of the details of sexual addiction and some of the basic steps of overcoming it, his thoughts are very clear and his advice is very useful. After that, however, he puts on his professional counselor hat where he seeks to better understand the origins of sexual addiction. And this is the point where we find out just how significantly he was influenced by Freudian psychology during whatever professional training he received.

If you buy into the Freudian model, then you'll love the entire book. If you don't, then you'll be ready to stop reading somewhere short of halfway through—in which case you'd probably want to just start with a different book.
