The Case for a Creator

by Lee Strobel

Lee Strobel is a Yale Law School Graduate, an award winning legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, and formerly, an atheist. He approaches the debate over the existence of God as a skeptic would.

In The Case for a Creator, he starts with the assumption that Darwinism and macroevolution are how the world came to be as we know it today and interviews seven scientists from different fields to see whether the evidence from each branch of science supports or denies the existence of a Creator. The following is a sampling of what he covers in this book.

  • The Evidence of Cosmology: Beginning with a Bang
  • The Evidence of Physics: The Cosmos on a Razor’s Edge
  • The Evidence of Astronomy: The Privileged Planet
  • The Evidence of Biochemistry: The Complexity of Molecular Machines
  • The Evidence of Biological Information: The Challenge of DNA and the Origin of Life
  • The Evidence of Consciousness: The Enigma of the Mind

In the pages of this book, you will find an overwhelming case presented—in various branches of science—that there is a Creator.

I was disappointed that he didn’t even attempt to answer the difficulty of matching the earth’s age according to science with its age according to the Bible. And while I would argue that we can’t be too dogmatic about how old the Bible says the earth is (after all, it never does say and genealogical gaps are almost a certainty), one would be hard pressed to argue that science’s age matches the Bible’s. Strobel and the scientists he interviews seem to assume an old Earth and never even attempt reconciliation.

Of all the Strobel books which I’ve read, this one is by far the meatiest and most difficult read. After all, it is a scientific book. However, Strobel is also a lay man, and interviews scientists who not only know the field, but who can explain complex scientific truths in simple, human terms. It’s a slower, more tedious read than the other two “Case for” books, but it’s well worth the effort you will put into it. I heartily recommend this book for anyone who has ever doubted God’s existence or anyone who constantly deals with Darwinists and would like some heavy-duty ammunition for your debates with them.
