The God of the Towel: Knowing the Tender Heart of God

by Jim McGuiggan

In this volume, McGuiggan seeks to illustrate in short, devotional readings pictures of God that reveal that His is a tender, loving heart. He does this by drawing eight different pictures: The God Who Loves Humans; The God Who Loves the Weak; The God Who is Holy; The God Who Forgives Sins; The God of the Towel; The God Who Allows Suffering; The God Who Makes Yokes; The God Who Calls Disciples.

And McGuiggan does an excellent job of proving thoughtful and challenging truths. The various essays are short enough to read in one sitting (2–5 pages), but provide enough substance to give you plenty to think about for several days. And that, really, is the main difference between McGuiggan and other devotional-type writers: his books rarely, if ever, contain space-filling fluff. His writings are substantial and challenging. And The God of The Towel is no different in that regard. And it's definitely worth reading.
