That You May Believe: Studies in the Gospel of John
by Homer Hailey
This is one of the Hailey books you will find on the shelves of many
preachers. That You May Believe is a study in John's Gospel;
however, it is not a verse by verse commentary. Rather, Hailey bases his
study around John's central theme, providing information that will lead
one to believe in Jesus (John 20: 30-31). With this central thought as the
purpose of John's gospel, Hailey enters a topical study in this gospel,
searching through the claims made about Jesus, the claims made by Jesus,
and finally the testimony provided to support the claims.
That You May Believe is written concisely and understandably and
provides an insight into John's gospel that will be missed in a verse by
verse study. Of course, this type of study misses things better seen in a
verse by verse study, so both are beneficial and
necessary. Editors Standing-Alone.com
The Editors do not advocate everything taught by the
authors of the books we review. Like us, these authors are fallible humans
and those who choose to read these books should measure them by the bible,
the one true standard.
