How to Read a Book: The Classic Guide to Intelligent ReadingMortimer J. Adler & Charles van DorenThere is no book that I have ever recommended that ended up being the butt of more jokes than this one. Although the title may inspire humor, the book is certainly a serious one—and one that everyone should read at some point in their life. By reading this book, you will immediately increase your awareness of what you need to do to be a better reader. If you actually do what is instructed, your understanding of what is read will increase and your retention of what is read will increase. Overall, your learning and personal benefit from reading will increase. Understand that this book is not about spiritual things. However, there is probably no better guide to Bible study than this book. The principles of good reading expressed in these pages certainly apply to Bible reading as well. I know of at least two congregations that used this as a guide in “How to Study the Bible” classes, and my personal experience will also attest to it’s usefulness in Bible Study. Get this book. Read this book. It’s something you won’t regret. EditorsStanding-Alone.com The Editors do not advocate everything taught by the authors of the books we review. Like us, these authors are fallible humans and those who choose to read these books should measure them by the bible, the one true standard. |
