Letter to the EditorsTo the Editors, I want to compliment you on your fine web site. I think that you will be able to offer much to those who desire to stand for God. I would like to comment on the "Prayer of Jabez" review. Although the book has some good things to say about prayer, the Christian reader must be warned that the focus of Wilkinson's book is that "God always answers THIS prayer." (emphasis mine-rfd). We know that God answers His children's prayers, however, Wilkinson makes the prayer of Jabez (the specific prayer itself) a magic formula. In his, "Making Jabez Mine" section, he emphasizes praying the Prayer of Jabez several times a day and looking for the miracles that God has performed for you. There is nothing said about Bible study, living a godly life, or other aspects of being a child of God that would impact our prayers. It is foolish to assume that a particular event is a miracle of God. We must live godly lives, doing what God commanded, and He will make all things work together for good and we should thank Him for His work in our lives. It is for God to know what He has specifically done in our lives and what we have done because we have been taught by Him. Although you have the disclaimer "The Editors do not advocate everything taught by the authors of the books we review. Like us, these authors are fallable humans and those who choose to read these books should measure them by the bible, the one true standard" I hope that future reviews will better warn the reader of specific errors to avoid when reading the book. Congratulations again on a good web site. Rhodes DavisNorthport, AL |
