Our Lord Will Save the Fallen

Swarmed by the darkness,
Overwhelmed on every hand,
The burdens unexpectedly
Were greater than I'd planned.
Overtaken, also, overworn,
My strength had now played out.
I could not help but wonder
How this failure came about.
The proud warrior, standing tall
Had fought with no delay.
Once bedecked in glimmering armor,
Now in dulled and dimmed array.
My struggling efforts useless,
My strivings were in vain.
Once I'd beaten all my enemies,
Once walked where foes had lain.
So what happened to my power?
Where did go my might?
How could I lie afflicted by
The darkness and the night?

Then He came forth with His hosts
With might and glory clad.
I saw a soldier coming
And my heart was then made glad.
The manifestation that He showed
Through this simple man of His--
I looked and I remembered
That I'd once been just like this.
This man told me, "Dear brother,
"It's you I've come to aid.
"Take courage, He is with us
"And His love will never fade."
This ally! was no new one;
I had seen his face before.
But in the hour I needed help
He appeared as something more.
My loyal comrade fought with me
And I saw that I'd unlearned
How to lean on our Great Captain
So to Him I then returned.

Restore my panoply, Great Smith--
Your weapons are for war.
If I trust in my own arms
I will fall just as before.
And as my soul was reforged
I looked out to view
The mighty foes assembling
And our own side, seeming few.
But as I watched I soon perceived
How the Lord restores His own
How His most powerful servants
Trusted in Him alone.
I returned back to the lines,
I donned again my blade.
My spirit was revitalized;
My faith would not be swayed.

A majestic warrior, standing firm
Searching all around.
Seeking out those who need aid,
Those fallen to the ground.
This minister, as can be called
Diligently goes forth calling:
"O weary ones! Do not give up!
"Our Lord will save the fallen!"
He cries again, "Our Lord will save!"
And more like him stand calling,
"O weary ones! Our God brings rest!
"Our Lord will save the fallen."
